"Ohhh, there's a stream!" Gabrielle said in delight. "Xena, can you catch us some fish? It's almost lunch time...and at least now we have a pan to cook them in."
"Whatever you like, my darling," Xena replied happily. "And maybe after lunch, we can get out the bedrolls and I'll show you how to cook with my juices." She gave her young friend a slow, sensual wink before turning toward the stream.
Gabrielle stood with her mouth open, torn between astonishment, amusement and dismay, thinking with alarm that she wasn't sure how much longer she could hold out under the constant barrage of Xena's lusty attentions. Unfortunately, these thoughts distracted her too severely, and she barely had time to react when yet another attacker dropped from a nearby tree and seized her. He immediately clamped a hand over her mouth, and though Gabrielle struggled in his grasp, she was unable to break free. A single blow of his hand, and she went limp in his arms. Argo whinnied uncertainly as the man slung Gabrielle over his shoulder and took off into the woods.
"This is taking too long," grumbled the God of War as he tossed dark curly hair over a sweaty shoulder. "I need Xena on my side again...and soon."
"Like, chill out, wouldja?" replied the Goddess of Love, wriggling sensuously underneath him. "As soon as she realizes fighting is the only way to get her girlfriend back, she'll be like totally yours to command." She smiled and sighed with pleasure as Ares trailed his mouth across her ample chest. "Besides, it's like, totally uncool to talk about another woman when you're in bed with me."
"I can't help it," Ares muttered against her perfect breasts. "War among mortals is so boring these days. It needs Xena to liven things up."
"Bummin'," said Aphrodite unsympathetically. She pushed Ares off her and sat up, reaching for her clothing. "Like, call me when you find a clue, okay?"
"Hey!" Ares grabbed her arm. "You can't just leave things like this." His godly erection pulsed insistently to emphasize his point. "Look, I'm sorry I brought it up, okay? All I was trying to do was..." he gave her his best insolent grin "express my appreciation for your help. I am really.... really.... really.... grateful." On each "really" he kissed the goddess' creamy white neck, his warm lips seeking out the most sensitive spots. Aphrodite sighed with pleasure and allowed him to pull her back underneath him.
"Well, okay," she relented as he slid his god-tool back inside her. "Ooh... we should totally collaborate more often...."
Gabrielle paced anxiously from one end of her small cell to the other. The tiny barred window showed that the sun was well past the noon point. The small fortress in which she was being held was mostly quiet, save the distant sounds of swords clashing as the local warlord's minions practiced their craft. Gabrielle was worried. In Xena's current love-befogged state, would she even be able to find out where Gabrielle was, let alone defeat all the guards and rescue her? For the first time in their acquaintance, Gabrielle had serious doubts about her friend's likelihood of victory.
Suddenly, she noticed that all the noises of the fort had stilled. The silence was eerie, and alarming. Gabrielle tensed, ready for almost anything. But she was certainly not ready for what happened next.
"Here's your fish, my sweet," Xena said as she entered the cell. "I cooked it just the way you like it." She held out a plateful of fried fish. "Eat up...you're going to need your strength later." She winked again. Gabrielle blushed, and then shook her head in surprise.
"Xena! How did you find me?"
"Hm?" Xena looked around, noticing their surroundings for the first time. "What are you doing in this dreary place? You should be lounging on cushions of the finest silk, in a towering mansion of marble...or better yet, right out in the open where the sun can caress your perfect skin and make your hair glow with fire...." Her voice dropped into a husky murmur as she stroked Gabrielle's hair lovingly. Gabrielle pulled back, and put a large piece of fish in her mouth as defense.
"Come on," she said around the food, "let's get out of here." With Xena close behind, she stepped through the shattered remains of the door and made her way through the fortress. At every turn, men lay in untidy heaps on the ground as testimony to Xena's passing. Gabrielle looked around in amazement.
"Xena, did you fight all these men?"
"Gee, I don't know," Xena said in confusion. "They...must have gotten in the way." They passed through the large gates of the fortress - standing forlornly open and unguarded - to find Argo waiting patiently outside.
"You never cease to amaze," Gabrielle sighed as she took another piece of fish. Xena simply stood and watched her eat, holding the canteen of water. As soon as Gabrielle finished, Xena put the water bag's nozzle to her lips and held it while the young bard drank. When she took the bag away, a few drops of water spilled across Gabrielle's chin, but - almost as if from long practice - she pulled away before Xena could catch the spill with her lips. Putting the horse between them, Gabrielle firmly put her feet back on the trail. The warrior princess took a long drink for herself, and then took up the pace as well, her eyes never leaving her beloved's profile as they trod the forest path.
